A critical review on; GLOBALIZATION: ITS IMPACT ON WOMEN HUMAN RIGHTS IN INDIA

INTRODUCTION:

The term ‘Globalization’  in the broader sense means that opening the door of flowing goods and services, people and their ideas, capital and labor and lastly technology and aspects of culture among the countries of the world and their incorporation in a single world society, with integrated inter-connections. The big effect of globalization kept the women in development marginally, but they should bring to the center of the development. It is an ambivalent process where in one side; women are deprived of their rights, security and safety whereas in other side, they have better opportunity for upliftment and education.

POSITIVE IMPACT:

Indian women are unable to keep their wolf from the door in terms of social, economic and political form. They become the scapegoat from the household to the outside world, and it is the cursed problem of almost all underdeveloped countries and Africa also, where they even don’t aware of their rights. Globalization has revolutionized all aspects of life in terms of economic, political, social, cultural, psychological and religious. This positive effects of globalization have changed the conventional system by building up of modern scientific attitudes, technology development, increase in awareness and spreading of modernization, which ultimately results into upliftment of women’s economic, health, educational status and also change in attitude. The spreading of women education has empowered them to face the very changing outlook of the Indian society and social system and compete.
Gradually, change comes in mindset of women from darkness of blind beliefs and faiths to the limelight of awareness of their interest, rights and existence. Mechanization of the society has uplifted women’s status of life. Due to globalized industrialization, women are getting more and more employment opportunity, and raising their self-esteem by breaking traditional norms and men’s attitudinal shift towards them. The communication revolution have made the opportunity to build up close relationship and sharing of opinions and views of women all over the world. Globalization breaks a lot of trends of traditional belief and customs of homeboundness. Now, their position has changed from foot to shoulder. They are not operated by men’s fingertip but became their companion. Globalization have greatly affected the urban women of nuclear families and the rural women after breaking of joint family systems to make better use of various state and NGO schemes for them.

NEGATIVE IMPACT:

Globalization’s impact and direction of change is not determined truly. So, the replacement of Structural Adjustment Policies (SAP) are eliminating public specially women welfare subsidies for their health, education and other social services, ultimately resulting them to be the worst sufferer of globalization. Governments are taking their hands off from the liabilities of welfare activities. They are double attacked by poverty and discrimination in terms of wages and opportunity. Women don’t get access to technical but laborious work. Lack of facilities for them had led to suffering of them from poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition. Women employees face double insecurity of income and employment. Devaluation of household work and only earning is marked as working due to fall of small scale industries. A height of negative effect of inflation is on rural poor women. They are unprivileged, illiterate and underhand of India’s excessive traditions and customs. As a result, the women’s group is divided in between more advantageous and more deprived classes. As a western concept, it overlaps Indian culture with its cultural autonomy. Globalization is indirectly fingering in and out household violence and crime against women due to increasing trend of consumerism and sexual sleeping around. Globalization for Indian women can be seen as just improvement of her life status and reduction of fertility and contraceptive obligations and more social participation. Globalization leads to feminize poverty as they are the most sufferers from injustice, inequalities and discrimination. It is making their problem bigger. Devaluation of Indian constitution stating security of socio-economic justice as it is seen as a cultural degradation in a free market economy. Our great Indian culture has special identity and space for women and its social cohesiveness and spiritual norms are betrayed and damaged due to globalization. Free market economy tends to open glamor and fashion, which is against of Indian culture. It challenges the sacred religious pillars of Indian society.
Decreasing of humanity from human and developing materialistic mindset tends to crime and cruelty, selfishness and self-egoism extensively at every stage of women’s life. Globalization leads to women trafficking, co-modification of their bodies and selling resulted in an increase in AIDS in India. Unemployment leads poverty leading to zero access to health care and further migration.

CONCLUSION:

Feminism is a global agenda today. It represents women’s voice to the world trans-nationally. As we know a car requires equal size of wheels on both left and right side to give it a proper balance. Therefore, Masculism and Feminism should go in a parallel manner, making a clear cut social balance. But, nowadays, the idea of feminism is changing rapidly as they (women) want to suppress and become dominant over men in the society.

As we know, a coin has it’s both opposite sides, therefore globalization also have its certain pros and cons. It has benefited for human rights of Indian women and simultaneously vulgar the social values, traditions or customs of Indian society and rise in unemployment among unskilled labor. If government and NGOs join their hands together to alter these negative impacts to positive, thus globalization can provide a comprehensive development for the upliftment of Indian women and act as a great facilitator of her progress in various spheres of her life.
