Integrated Education as envisaged by swami Vivekananda

It is education that differentiates “MAN” from other living being, since it refines the mind and intellect which remains unrefined in animals, birds and insects etc. Swami Vivekananda while travelling in America said, “Travelling through many cities of Europe and observing in them the comforts and education of even the poor people there it was brought to my mind the state of our own people, and I used to shed tears, what made difference? Education was the answer I got.” He said, “Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested all your life. You must have a life-building, man-making, character-making, assimilation of ideas”. Essentially, the goal of education is to give children a happy childhood and prepare them for a productive and useful civic life. The conventional system of education continues to be the norm despite the realization, that education is not merely a medium of social change but also a creative force which re

Swamiji’s prospect on mass education: A bird’s eye view

Multiple times Swamiji mentioned about the development of India. Progress of villages and upliftment of common masses is must towards the success of this mission. Swamiji said that a nation is advanced in proportion as education and intelligence spread among the masses. For India to raise, the masses have to be educated. How can education improve their condition? Swamiji says that through education faith in oneself develops and due to this self–belief, the inherent Brahman wakes up and when that happens they can solve all their problems. The only service to be done for our masses is to give them education to develop their lost individuality. So, education for the common masses is the first priority. He pleaded for technical education. That will make people stand on their own feet and earn their own bread. Secular education with the notion of man making and character building, which is axis of our Indian tradition, must be taught. We need technical education a

Vivekananda and the service of the common man

Our constitution is a noble document ensuring a high vision of human excellence and the will of our people to establish that excellence of human dignity, freedom, and equality in our country. Our nation came to itself only when these, our tribal fellow-citizens, and the millions of our other backward communities also, are given the economic, social and cultural blessings of our freedom. Today India stands strong as a democratic political state deriving its strength from the people of India. This is a great thing in our history. Through the ages we had small states and big empires, but not one of them was founded upon the strength and consent of the people of India. They were founded on the strength of king or an emperor or a commander-in-chief we have this democracy today, the largest democracy in the world. But there are many challenges to our democracy in the world. But there are many challenges to our democracy which we have to face as citizens. The political structure has stood

Sericulture- An important allied sector of agriculture

The largest industries of the country like sugar, jute, textiles, food processing, etc. are dependent on agriculture for their raw materials. Beside this animal husbandry, dairy, fishery, horticulture and sericulture are the allied sectors of agriculture. Now we will discuss sericulture briefly. Sustainability Emerging

The word sustainability derived from Latin word ‘sustinere’. Mainly this sustainability depends on three component i.e. social, economy and environment. While sustainable development is a broad concept. In 1987 the Brundtland report gives a concept of sustainable development i.e. development should be fulfilled our present need but not hampered future generation. Now the point is why we think about it? Because today we face many types of pollution which result to suffer present generation as well as future generation. Many debates between developed countries and developing are seen. After UN conference on Human Environment at Stockholm, 1972 reported that poverty is the main problem of human environment. The conference established some policies or solutions to control our environment for the reason of ecodevelopment. Now if we try to develop our economy than it should be required appropriate technology. It means appropriate thinking, tools, place are required for development. A
